Lord’s Library editors offer this how to know you are saved Bible verse guide to show how salvation comes by grace through faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ.

The Bible provides many verses to assure believers that they can know they are saved. This assurance is not based on human feelings or achievements but on the promises of God, the finished work of Jesus Christ, and the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit. Here are key Bible verses that help believers know they are saved.

One of the most reassuring verses is 1 John 5:13, which states, “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.” This verse makes it clear that God wants believers to have confidence in their salvation. Eternal life is not a vague hope but a certainty for those who believe in Jesus.

As it Is Written: Know You Are Saved Bible Verse

John 3:16 is another foundational verse: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” This verse emphasizes that eternal life is a gift from God to all who believe in Jesus. The promise is clear and unconditional—those who believe in Him will not perish but have everlasting life.

Jesus Himself affirmed this assurance in John 5:24: “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.” The phrase “hath everlasting life” highlights the present possession of eternal life for the believer. This salvation is secure, as believers are promised they will not come into condemnation.

The Apostle Paul also wrote extensively about the assurance of salvation. Romans 8:1 declares, “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” This verse assures believers that they are no longer under God’s judgment because of their union with Christ. Paul reinforces this confidence later in the chapter, stating in Romans 8:38-39, “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” These verses affirm the unbreakable bond between the believer and God’s love.

Another key verse is 2 Corinthians 5:17: “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” The transformation that occurs when a person is saved is evidence of their salvation. This new life in Christ is a testament to the reality of their faith and God’s work in them.

The Holy Spirit also provides assurance of salvation. Ephesians 1:13-14 says, “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.” The Holy Spirit acts as a seal and a guarantee of the believer’s salvation, marking them as God’s own and ensuring their eternal inheritance.

Philippians 1:6 offers further assurance: “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.” This verse assures believers that God, who initiated their salvation, will faithfully complete it. Salvation is God’s work from beginning to end, and He is committed to preserving those who are His.

Finally, John 10:28-29 provides a powerful promise of eternal security: “And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.” These words from Jesus emphasize the believer’s safety in God’s hands. Once saved, a person’s salvation is secure because it is upheld by the power of God.

In conclusion, the Bible is full of verses that provide assurance of salvation. Believers can know they are saved because of God’s promises, the completed work of Christ, and the confirming presence of the Holy Spirit. If you trust in Jesus Christ as your Savior and believe in His death and resurrection for the forgiveness of your sins, you can be confident in your salvation. As Romans 10:13 declares, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” This assurance is not a matter of doubt but a matter of faith in the unchanging Word of God.
