Everyone wants to be a leader. However, to be a strong Biblical leader you must first be a servant. Below is a brief acronym of the word serving that hopefully will prod your thinking to build more characteristics of servanthood into your life, and to have a positive impact on those around you. A Biblical servant will live a lifestyle of sacrifice to help further the Kingdom of God and build up other people. See Colossians 3:23-24: “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.”Sacrifice
Being a Servant Leader
Embrace
A Biblical servant will have a Kingdom mentality, not a church or denomination mentality.
See Hebrews 12:28: “Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:”
Redeemed
A Biblical servant will be born again.
See 2 Corinthians 5:17: “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
Vibrant
A Biblical servant will be excited and energetic about serving the Lord, their family, their church, and others. Greet with life!
See Romans 12:11 and Acts 17:11:
- Romans 12:11: “Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;”
- Acts 17:11: “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”
Accountable
A Biblical servant will be accountable to God and to others.
See Hebrews 10:24-25: “And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”
Nevertheless
When facing a challenging task, a Biblical servant will say: “Nevertheless…”
See Luke 5:5: “And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.”
Teachable
A Biblical servant will be teachable and always learning.
See Proverbs 9:9: “Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.”
