“Everyone knows the Bible isn’t literally true.” I was at a secular book club discussion when one attendee made that offhand remark. As a Christian, I asked him why he thought that. He fumbled: “A lot of the so-called historical details have been disproven.” I pressed for specifics, which he finally said he would bring with him next time. As it turns out, there was no “next time” since the book club disbanded after that session.
But it wasn’t his fumble that troubled me most; it was my relief that he hadn’t been able to answer me. I wasn’t prepared to rebut his arguments. That’s when I asked myself, “How do I know what I believe is true?” This was my entry into Christian apologetics.
The Webster’s 1828 Dictionary defines apologetic as “Defending by words or arguments; excusing; said or written in defense, or by way of apology; as an apologetic essay.” Christian apologetics, then, is a defense of Christianity. Some believers find Christian apologetics off-putting, as if offering reasonable arguments for Christian beliefs detracts from the spiritual and emotional components of worship. But in Matthew 22:37, Jesus says “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.”
So worship involves not just heart, not just soul, but also mind.
Where should a curious Christian start, though? Like many other topics in our Internet age, it can seem at times like too many Christian apologetics websites are out there. Which are reliable? What makes each distinct? No need to get lost in the choices, though, as the editors at Lord’s Library aim to separate the wheat from the chaff to offer our view of the best Christian apologetic websites online. We also highlighted our favorite feature from each web resource to help guide your study.

The Best Christian Apologetics Websites
Apologetics.org
Apologetics.org is notable for its comprehensiveness. The site is associated with the CS Lewis Society under Executive Director Tom Woodward, a professor at Trinity College in Florida. Woodward has curated articles, interviews, webinars, and more from heavy hitters in the Christian world, such as Michael Behe, Stephen Meyer, and James White.
Favorite Feature: Woodward includes free access to the 2021 Cutting Edge Apologetics webinar series. Anything a budding Christian apologist needs is on this site.
Bethinking.org
The Universities and Colleges Christian Fellowship (UCCF) is behind this Christian apologetics website. Working within an intensely secular atmosphere of higher education, UCCF’s aim is to disciple students—although their resources will help anyone. Nevertheless, those who know young people going off to college should point them in the direction of bethinking.org.
Favorite Feature: Numerous resources that equip Christians to witness to adherents of other religions are under the site’s Compare section.
Intelligentdesign.org
Operated by Discovery Institute and unlike the other Christian apologetics websites, this one focuses on one issue; Intelligent Design (ID). Schools inculcate students with a naturalistic worldview, and this site equips parents and other believers to offer a different explanation for how we got here. For that reason, the site is worthy of its own subcategory within apologetics.
Favorite Feature: Intelligentdesign.org doesn’t assume that all visitors have knowledge of ID. Its Getting Started page has organized content into introductory, intermediate, and advanced sections. The page also includes a searchable database of more than 15,000 pieces of content.
Reasonablefaith.org
Dr. William Lane Craig’s name has become synonymous with Christian apologetics. Craig, the founder of Reasonablefaith.org (and author of a book by the same name), is an intellectual giant who has skillfully debated such avowed atheists as Sam Harris and the late Christopher Hitchens. His site has an impressive list of resources, links to an effective video series, and much more to equip any Christian to defend the faith.
Favorite Feature: Craig’s site has an Ask a Question section that allows visitors to submit a question, which he may feature in his weekly response. The answers to almost any Biblical or theological question are in this section.
Final Thoughts
What are you waiting for? These Christian apologetics websites will help you to “be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you” as Scripture says in 1 Peter 3:15.
